How Saint Lucia scored.
Six things we rate every trip on, out of 10, from our own family travel, plus our overall score, which is simply the average of the ones we can score. Flight ease and value are calculated the same way for every destination.
A parents-only trip: we went without the girls, so the kid-friendly score is our honest judgment, not tested with our kids.
From our trip. This was a trip for the two of us. It was beautiful and wonderful, and we can imagine the girls loving the volcanic hot springs, but there just was not a lot of infrastructure for kids.
Flight ease
9.1/10About 5.9 hours nonstop from Boston. We score every flight the same way: start at 10, take off half a point for each hour beyond 4 (a quarter point per hour past 10), and a point for each connection. JetBlue flies Logan to Hewanorra nonstop on Saturdays, with a second Saturday flight in late winter.
Kid friendly
6/10Beautiful, and the Sulphur Springs mud baths would likely be a hit, but outside the big family resorts up north there is not much infrastructure for kids.
Walkability
3/10You drive everywhere: the airport is at the far south and the roads are winding, so trips take longer than the map suggests.
Value
– not scoredNumbeo does not publish a cost of living index for Saint Lucia (too little data), so we leave value unscored here and the overall is the average of the other five.
Food
7/10The local lunch on our tour was inexpensive and genuinely delicious; the north is mostly all-inclusive dining.
Weather
9/10Warm and dry December to April.
Overall
6.8/10Stunning for a parents' trip; with kids, pick a family resort and plan the drives.
Saturdays only, year-round.
JetBlue's nonstop runs Saturdays year-round, about 5 hours 30 minutes, with a second Saturday flight in late winter. That schedule constraint means the trip needs to be planned around a Saturday departure and return, which lines up naturally with a school vacation week.
Beach days up north, then the Pitons.
Our full guide covers all-inclusive beach days up north, then the Pitons, mud baths and a guided hike in Soufriere, a real mix of relaxing and doing something with the kids.
