The best time
to visit Paris with kids.

May and September are the best months to visit Paris with kids. Highs sit in the upper 60s to low 70s, there are 13 to 15 hours of daylight for park time, and the lines at the sights worth queuing for are shorter than in July and August. February vacation week is the quiet runner-up, as long as you plan more of each day indoors.

The quick answer

When is the best time to visit Paris with kids?

Late spring (May into early June) or early fall (September into early October). With small kids Paris runs on gardens, and those are the months when a sailboat-pond morning, a carousel and a picnic lunch all work without a heat wave or a cold drizzle. Air France, Delta and JetBlue fly Boston to Paris nonstop year-round, so the season shapes the trip, never the flight.

School vacation weeks

How each New England school week fits Paris.

February vacation (Feb 15 to 19, 2027). Cold, with highs in the mid-40s, often gray, and noticeably emptier than spring. Three airlines fly it nonstop, so vacation-week fares hold up better than on thinner routes. The full plan is in Paris in February vacation week.

April vacation (Apr 19 to 23, 2027). Around 60°F, gardens coming back to life, 13 to 14 hours of daylight. Busier than February, but the best balance a fixed school week gets.

Summer. Easy to book, hard to enjoy at midday. Aim for late June and base near a garden with a shaded playground.

Thanksgiving and December break. Thanksgiving week is quiet, with sunset around 5pm and the holiday lights going up. December break brings the markets and store windows, plus Christmas-week crowds.

Our pick: April vacation if you want park weather, February if you want the emptiest Paris a school calendar allows. The locked dates are on our school vacation page.

When we went

What Paris taught us with the girls.

Our notes don't pin our Paris time with the girls to one month, so we won't pretend they do. What we can tell you from being there: we stayed near the Louvre on a train line, Disneyland Paris was the girls' favorite day, and a warm croissant every morning mattered more to them than any monument.

The one scary moment came at the very top of the Eiffel Tower, when our daughter's hand got caught in the elevator door. Everyone was fine. It's why we now tell families to see the tower from below, picnic under it, and skip the climb with little ones.

We take the evening flight from Boston that lands mid-morning, and the girls sleep most of the way. Even so, the whole family usually needs a nap once we reach the apartment. Build that nap into day one, whatever the month.

By age

Which month suits which kids.

Babies and toddlers

May, June and September give the longest run of dry, mild weather for stroller naps in a park. In any month, bring a lightweight stroller or a carrier (we lean on a carrier up to about age 4), because many Métro stations have stairs and no elevator. In winter, buses beat the Métro with a stroller and let you warm up between stops.

Ages 5 to 10

Prime age for Disneyland Paris, about 40 minutes on the RER A, and the sailboat pond at the Luxembourg Gardens. If your dates allow, go to Disney on a weekday outside the French school holidays, when local families fill the park.

Tweens

Old enough for a short, targeted Louvre visit and a Versailles garden day. Go in spring or early fall: the fountain shows at Versailles run only in the warmer months.

What to skip in the wrong month

  • July and August: midday lines in full sun. Do the Eiffel Tower grounds early, then head indoors.
  • November to March: Giverny. Monet's gardens close for the winter and reopen in spring.
